• The Impact of Online Fraud in Latin America, Presented by Koin

    |

Online (not face-to-face) shopping has become a recurring habit and is becoming very popular.  According to the study "E-commerce in Latin America" published by PagSeguro, the six* main markets in the region have generated US$ 595 billion in online sales in 2024 (a 24% increase on the previous year). Introduced three decades ago, e-commerce is growing sharply as consumer habits migrate from physical purchases to virtual commerce. At the same time as the representativeness of the online channel increases, attempts at fraud on this channel are growing sharply, making it a subject of constant attention for shopkeepers and agents involved in payment transactions. This study estimates that the total cost of online fraud, taking into account losses when the fraud is successful (chargeback) plus the cost of prevention (anti-fraud platforms), can reach 1.9 % of the online store's sales revenue, which highlights the importance of managing it.

Koin Webinar - the Impact of Online Fraud aims to delve deeper into the subject of fraud in non-face-to-face purchases, analyzing its impact on shopkeepers and exploring various perspectives on the subject, including, in an unprecedented way, analyzing the organization of criminals active in scams in this segment.*
